Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 10, 2026

DriveLog is a drive tracking app that records GPS data to calculate your speed, distance, and route while driving. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.

What we collect

While you are actively recording a drive, DriveLog collects:

This data is collected only when you tap Start Drive and stops the moment you tap Finish. No data is collected at any other time.

How your data is stored

All trip data — your routes, speeds, and recorded drives — is stored exclusively on your device in a local SQLite database. Your drives are never uploaded to any server, cloud service, or database operated by us. We do not sync your trips across devices and we do not have a server that holds your data.

How your data is used

Collected location data is used solely to:

We do not use your data for advertising, analytics, or any other purpose.

Data sharing

We do not sell, share, rent, or transmit your personal data to any third party. The only exception is if you choose to use the share, save-to-gallery, or export features — in which case you are sharing the content — we have no involvement in or access to that action.

Third-party services

DriveLog uses the Google Maps API to display route maps on share cards (Pro feature). When this feature is used, sampled GPS coordinates from your trip are sent to Google's servers to render a static map image. The rendered image is cached on your device so the request is made at most once per trip. This is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

DriveLog uses Google Play Billing to process the optional one-time DriveLog Pro upgrade. When you initiate or restore a purchase, your transaction is handled by Google Play; we receive only the confirmation that you own the Pro SKU, not your payment details. Pro entitlement is recorded in your device's local storage. This is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

DriveLog uses Sentry to capture crash reports when something goes wrong inside the app. A crash report contains the error message, stack trace, app version, and a randomly generated device identifier — it does not contain your GPS coordinates, routes, trip names, or any other trip data. IP addresses, headers, and cookies are not sent to Sentry. This is governed by Sentry's Privacy Policy.

DriveLog checks for over-the-air app updates via Expo's update service on app launch. The check transmits only your installed app version and runtime version to the update server; no personal data is sent. This is governed by Expo's Privacy Policy.

No advertising, analytics, or tracking frameworks are present in the app.

Background location

DriveLog requests background location permission so that GPS tracking continues accurately if your screen turns off during a drive. This permission is used solely for active recording sessions and for no other purpose. A persistent foreground-service notification is shown while a recording is in progress so you always know when location is being collected.

Data retention & deletion

Your trip data is stored on your device for as long as you choose to keep it. You can delete individual trips at any time from within the app by long-pressing a trip and selecting Delete. Uninstalling the app removes all data permanently, including your Pro entitlement flag (the entitlement itself can be restored from Google Play via the Restore Purchases option).

Children's privacy

DriveLog is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
